The History
An early settler, prominent Launceston businessman Britton Jones, built the house in 1832. At this time, Sydney, Hobart and Launceston where only small towns and inland Australia was yet to be explored. The home is situated on Magpie Hill on the old Hobart road, where it passes through Franklin Village on the southern outskirts of Launceston.
The style is Neo Gothic Revival. It has lancet windows to gable ends.
A small extension, which repeats the picturesque style was completed in 1864 and includes a twin bedroom, attic above and bathroom. At this time the property was being used as a girls school and was known as Lyndhurst.

History recalls by March 1875 Henry Edgell and his family had taken occupation of the property. The eldest son Robert, claimed that his father was induced to buy the property, as the major attraction being its beautiful setting. At this time the property was 59 acres in size.

In 1949, the farmers and owners were the Langdon family. The remainder of the accommodation was built in their time, comprising an entrance hall, kitchen and large sitting room, all in keeping with the historic integrity and ambiance of Greycliffe.
Since that time the house has been used as a family home and a Bed and Breakfast colonial accommodation, at all times retaining its peaceful country feeling.
