The History
It was in 1832 that Britton Jones: a successful settler and prominent businessman built ‘Greycliffe’ (then know as Lyndhurst). At that time, there were only three small towns in Australia: Sydney, Hobart and Launceston and the vast inland Australia was yet to be explored. In 1838 Jones went on to build Franklin House, now a National Trust Historical Museum, 1km from ‘Greycliffe’. ‘Greycliffe’ was built on Magpie Hill on the old Hobart Rd where it passed through Franklin Village on the southern outskirts on Launceston. In 1864 the house was enlarged and the cross gable roof extension was built. For a while Lyndhurst’ became a boarding school for girls.
In the 1940′s the house was enlarged further to include a glorious large sunroom an extra kitchen and bathroom, all in keeping with the historic integrity and ambience of ‘Greycliffe’. Since that time the house has been used as a family home and a Bed and Breakfast, at all times retaining it’s beautiful original features and it’s peaceful country feeling.

Living areas include study or library, dining, sitting rooms and a bright east facing provincial style kitchen. There is a self- contained apartment (with separate entrance) under the same roofline, which can enhance the already generous accommodation of this warm and gracious home. A floor plan is available.
