In 1873 the schooner Joanna was wrecked at the mouth of the river on this stretch of coastline. This area was named after that ship but the story goes that the German postmaster who lived and worked here added the h to make himself feel more at home and make Johanna sound a bit more sophisticated!

Still the hamlet of Johanna is a well-kept secret. Most visitors drive straight past the Red and Blue Roads that lead to the ocean, but they are missing out on a stretch of coastline so glorious that you might think you have died and gone to heaven.

Here are 160 acres of the wonderful undulating land that roll back into the stunning scenery surrounding the Great Ocean Road. Gentle hills lead to pristine pockets of rainforest, fern tree gullies, and abundant wildlife. The starry skies above are like a diamond encrusted throw of black velvet, and moonrise or sunrise, the view always astounds.

Make a sea change and a tree change to an area that remains clandestine to those who know and love it.
