Settlement history on Darlington:
Settlement of the area dates from the 1880s, with land used mainly for vineyards and nurseries. Growth was aided by the construction of the first route of the eastern railway line in the 1880s and the establishment of orchards and guesthouses in the early 1900s. The most significant development occurred in the post-war years, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased marginally between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
