THE BUSINESS
Halcyon Vineyard (Cavalier Crest) was one of the region’s earliest to be established, with the first plantings in 1978 by Dr Richard Heron. Consequent plantings were followed in 1979 and 1988. The present owners took over in 1992 and the last planting was carried out in 1994.
Operated as a boutique family vineyard, the grapes have been sold to Margaret River’s finest vineyards and in 2003 the Cavalier Crest label was created and by 2005, all fruit was retained for their own use.
THE LAND
The total land area is 11.87ha with 8ha planted to vines. The 8ha is divided into two blocks for irrigation/fertilizing. All vines are drip-irrigated but the mature vines only receive water in exceptionally dry years.
THE HOME
With commanding outstanding views of the vineyard, pastures and gardens, the large three bedroom two bathroom home has verandahs on all sides. It is constructed of double brick and iron.
The interior of the home is spacious and features high raked ceilings, tiled open-plan living areas with sliding glass doors opening to the wide verandah. There is a walk-in pantry, loads of cupboard and bench space, dishwasher, electric oven, gas cooktop and a Stanley wood oven completes this big country kitchen.
Jarrah flooring is used in the formal lounge/dining areas and a slow combustion wood fire creates a warm ambiance on those wintery nights. Reverse cycle air conditioning ensures year round temperature control. There is an office with access directly off the verandah as well from the living areas.
All bedrooms are large with walk-in robes and television points. The ensuite includes a spa bath and the main bedroom is spacious enough to include a sitting area.
Large windows take in the views from all angles and ensures this is a bright sunny home.
